On one of those cold & dark, nameless days between Christmas & New Year, when time seems to stay still, I met Laura & Alejandro at my favourite beach in Whitehaven.

The sky was grey, the sea was frothing furiously and the wind had a bite to it. I was euphoric. It’s rare of me to venture to this beach with anyone, especially a couple in love, willing to freeze in these conditions.

Laura & Alejandro quickly forgot about me, all dizzy, I assume, with the excitement and joy of those post-wedding moments when life is all about love and future, so little about else. There’s no posing, no staged emotion, just a young couple in love, skipping stones, chatting, their laughter carried by the wind, mixed with the song of seagulls - and me, trailing behind with the camera in my hand, fingers numb with cold.

I couldn’t, and wouldn’t ask for anything more from a photo shoot.
